Violent Jokes was founded in late 2007. The band is based in Hong Kong and groups together Korean vocalist: Shadow Kim, British producer: Simon Griffin, and Italian pianist: Claudio Canzonetta. Creating a local electronic scene with their potent interpretation of Electronica, Drum & Bass and Breakbeat. Combining main components of Drum & Bass along with the vibrant vocals of Shadow, their original concept is to perform live shows that make you dance, introducing musicianship into clubs and playing concerts into typical DJ environments. The trio promotes an unusual combination of D&B loops with live instruments, electric buzzes and intriguing lyrics, glitch and distorted guitars. Violent Jokes is widely known in Hong Kong and has filled up all major venues in town. In 2008 they promoted a show with local DnB masters Kongkrete Bass, hosting DJ Shawn Limewire from USA. They toured South China and participated as the only live electronic act at Spring Scream 2008, Kenting (Taiwan). Their music has been featured in two different compilations, promoted by Underground HK and Juicy Orange Productions, and Jet Li used one of their tracks as soundtrack for a video. In 2009 they have released their first EP, “Falling”. The launch party for the EP was sponsored by Agnes B (Sport B line) and HK Live. In the case of “Falling”, the band created, recorded and mastered they’re own tracks. Songs such as “Skyland”, “Me As A Wolf” and “Dangerous” are putting across a subtle message of awareness. “Falling” is in limited edition and distributed only in Agnes B shops in Hong Kong and Greater China, in its physical form. The EP is also available as digital download from iTunes, Napster, Amazon and all major music portals. They are planning concerts in Southern China, Malaysia, Japan, Singapore and Taiwan for 2009/2010. Their first full-length album is already in recording and will be probably launched early 2010.
